We spend a lot of time in our homes, and whether you rent or own your abode, you want to make it more inviting and comfortable.
However, you may not have a ton of time or money to invest. Luckily, you don’t need it. Use these four easy projects to transform your home over a weekend or even an afternoon.
Convert a Closet
There are some incredibly creative things that you can do with a closet that goes well beyond the realm of storing shoes and jackets.
One idea is to create a mudroom or entry storage. Take off the doors and build a bench with drawers on the ground. Hang shelving and hooks above, and voila! You have a mudroom.
Alternatively, create a reading nook in a bedroom closet or another closet that’s out of the way. You can remove the doors or leave them, but finish the look by hanging sheer curtains across the opening.
Build a platform and cover it with comfortable cushions, throw pillows, and blankets. Add some shelving up top for book storage, and don’t forget a small shelf somewhere to rest a snack and cup of tea or glass of wine.
If you don’t have an unused closet, consider getting a storage unit. Most are temperature-controlled, secure, and easily accessible by renters. It’s a convenient way to declutter other spaces in your house, as well.
Collage a Wall
This tip is especially great if you live in a rented apartment or home and can’t paint your walls according to your color preferences.
Instead, cover a wall with a “collage” of photos and other items that you love.
If you’re worried about it looking cluttered, there are a few things you can do to prevent that look.
Try using the same style and color frame for every item. Or, use pictures that are all converted into black and white or have the same dominant color. Alternatively, stick to a theme: use only portraits or images of places you’ve traveled to and love.
Control the Clutter
This advice is one of the most tried and true. If you want to create a calm atmosphere in your home, you need to control the clutter.
This is another instance where renting a storage unit can come in very handy. Instead of having to get rid of all your precious mementos or other items, you’re holding onto for another reason, store them safely.
Transforming your home is easier than you think. It still might take some patience and elbow grease, but we promise the results will be worth it.
